Yeah I fully agree. Most sizes aren't that ACTUAL size anyway if you measure. The garment is simply made to fit a chest of that particular size, roughly. Like a 34" waist jeans won't be 34" exactly. A 42" chest shirt won't be 42". It's all a rough estimate and the sizings and S, M, L, XL are all just guidelines. You are right thought that trying it on is best, even if it means going to a local shop, finding out what size you need then buying it cheaper online when you get home.
