what constitutes fair trade fashion or is it all in the eye of the beholder?

There is no agreed international or even national definition. I understand Fairtrade as merchandise which supports people on the poverty line by offering them the channels to sell their handcrafted merchandise, including fashion, in the Western market. Whether this helps the environment and the sell-local demands is another question.

there's the parardox - we should all buy local to save on energy from the underprivileged in the third world. never quite figured out how that works.

to me fair trade is a contradiction in terms. trade isn't fair it is about making as much profit as you can. we need a new term which conveys a honest exchange from one party to another.
