candle, i think wasted is talking relatively. i know people in america who leave uni with six figure debt and the debt is all genuine; not money wasted on drink, drugs and clubs. in the uk we pay next to nothing for our actual education, relatively speaking.

to be honest candleguy you have lost me. what are you attempting to convey? are you saying the only good degree is a degree from oxford and if you are rejected by oxford you're not going to pursue a degree?

my dad has a friend in mass, usa and his son left yale with $200,000 worth of debt. apparently educational debt has a much lower rate of interest. bet that made him feel a lot happier

Yes it is an elitist statement.
And yes that is pretty much what i am saying, specific degrees anyway... economics from LSE and sport/engineering from Loughborough, anything from Cambridge or Oxford, perhaps Durham. Anything else can seem like an expensive waste. Perhaps im too cynical
