perhapps we're digressing a touch. you say a degree is pointless unless you can get it from oxford which we all agree is a painfully elitist statement. moreover, if you're unable to attend oxford you'll cease your formal education. imo that's rather rash because you must have potential even to be considered for oxford and i sincerely believe you'll end up regretting not pursuing your education even if the uni isn't your first choice.
honcho asks an interesting question, what will you do if you decide not to go to further ed?

tesco do a very good trainee management program. i can send you a link to the application form if you like?
everyone should pay for their education after the age of 18! if you want it then pay for it that way you cut out a lot of the wasters like me

Haha, i feel you too are being a bit cynical, University is not the only option - or something which should be seen as ABSOLUTELY necessary if you can get there...because the truth of the matter is the vast majority of people can do so.
Yes i could go to another university, i was merely expressing that it is a choice..whether to take the 30k hit and expect it to pay off..or take another route.
I would probably seek a career in sales or marketing as i have a certain natural affinity for it.
I never denied the statement's elitism.
It is a decisionn based on pecuinary interest... is my degree worth its cost? or would i be better off takign a different route. My opinion is that it is a tough decision when the degree is not especially impressive.

how does it cost 30k in the uk if your education is free? over here it is nothing to pay 250k for a ba.

Been seeing this thread and resisted the urge to comment until now. Candle says that not going to Oxbridge makes his degree worthless but then comes out with the statement he wants to go into sales and marketing, well those jobs are easy to come by at a high level with a dossers degree from a dump uni, that is not a career where they expect Oxbridge education. The degree classification is more important, I have friends with a 1st from mediocre unis working at top M and A houses and then friends with a 2:2 from oxford who could not break into that business. Seems like you are going over board and throwing your toys out the pram, just make sure you go to a decent uni and get a decent degree result, it's true you don't need a degree to get on in life but for certain careers it is neccessary.

just read a great book by Paul Arden... its not the university that makes success... its your personality and ambitions!

Maybe Candleguy Is Subliminally Looking For An Excuse Not To Attend University.
If You Have Any Doubts Candleguy Forget It And Go With Your Intuition. I Know Many Successful People Who Wouldn't Step Foot In An Institution Of Higher Education. Just Look At The Financial Houses In London. A Lot Of Them Guys. Particularly The Older Ones Gained Their Education From Dodging And Dealing In New Covent Garden!

I didn't, I had the A-Level grades to but never wanted to, I was the only one out of my whole year group though that did not and it was not welcomed by my school but I make my own choices.
