There are other ways to help people, charity ain't always about money...

you can also help them by spreading words to others about it..

good point. some voluntary work might be a good alternative. it's easier just to give a few quid though

Don't give a regalar amount each month.

I NEVER give to people collecting in the street or those 'students' wanting people to sign up to give a regular amount. If I wanted to give money, I would be proactive and search out a charity of my choice.

I give to charities that I feel are worthy, will often take old clothes and things to charity shops, will sponsor people I know etc.

I hate charities that send me free products to encourage me to donate or sign up. I think that is criminal - such a waste!

One charity I don't like is Oxfam! Not for the things they do, but the way they take advantage of products they have. People donate clothing or books to be sold. You would expect books and clothes to be sold at a reasonable price. Aparantly they price them very high! My mum goes to chaity shops for things for her school - dressing up clothes, old books, games etc. She won't go to oxfam as she feels they take advantage, considering the products have been given for free!

I like supporting some of the smaller charities which don't spend huge amounts on advertising campaigns and aren't as well known.

Yeah I often have a nose in the Charity shops, even picked up a brand new Diesel denim Jacket for just £6 in Chester!! The Charity shops, especially Oxfam are much more savvy now, and with the internet they can find out what the true value of items are before they price them up. The days of finding that rare signed Beatles Album for 50p are well and truly over LOL
