Thats a toughy that question, I don't think it is possible to identify any one single group of people as more racist than another, our perceptions of how we as individuals have been treated by other races will make each response unique. For example I couldnt say Hispanics because in Engand where I live I never see any, but one thing is for sure, given my own life experience the people who have treated me worse as a child and growing up were white people ( and I am white!) so go figure eh! I think that we all find ourselves wary of different cultures, languages, etc., and it is probably only natural that we all hold onto our own cultural differences at the expense of others. However when you get right down to it I firmly believe that there are very few people who are fundementally racist.

is racism born of fear or legitimate concerns about losing national/group identity?

Well with the state of current events and the past 8 years or so I'd say Muslims, but that's not down to my own experience, it's more a society thing. Like the other guys have said, you can't just pigeonhole an whole race because of certain individuals.

Ask yourself this, do you get blacks, whites, hispanics or asians preaching hatred on Britains streets towards muslims? do you get Muslims doing exactly that? I believe I just answered your question.

anything that polarises ethnic groups can lead to racism.

I think MichealS hit it on the head, its not that there is nessessarly more racism about, I think that maybe sectors of society feel that they are more discriminated against. Whether that is true or not or just in the minds of the individuals is something that cannot be easily ascertained. For certain whilst there are differences in people there will always be a type of racism about. Even white on white racism occurs ( English dont like the Irish and Vice Versa, people with brown hair dont like people with ginger hair, etc). It just goes on and on. The important thing to understand is the difference between Racism and Discrimination. They are not the same thing. Racism is just another word for FEAR!

I'm only going on what I've experienced myself.

I don't think there is much racisim now compared to years ago.

If I was to say one group it would be blacks. The reason is they see themselves as 'black' and 'us' as 'white'.
I know this might sound really cheesy but I don't see colour! I don't see people and think he's black or white etc. From personal experience the group I find that does this is blacks. I also know of a couple of black families who don't want their sons going out with white girls!!

The Ali G saying 'is it coz I is black' seems spot on!

Equally I'm sure this can be the case for all other groups. This is from my own experience!

I do certainly think people play the race card far too often! Which is very wrong as it turns people against them and their 'group'. A bit like the boy crying wolf!!

It is also important to recognise what is commonly called "Positive discrimination". This occurs where for example a certain ethnic group, women or the disabled are under represented in the workplace and may get a job for which somebody else is more suitable or better qualified, just to make up the numbers, if thats the right way to put it. In some ways its right in other ways its wrong.
