Quinto are a large PI / UK wholesaler. BBClothing is Quinto's retail side of their company.

I don't know about the wholesalers in Italy - so I can't really comment on that.

Maybe the wholesalers in Italy purchase from all the various distributors. They then sell onto UK PIs.

Think the best thing is to clarify what is :

a) Italian wholsaler
b) UK wholesaler
c) distributor
d) parallel importer

as people may be using different terms to describe things.

so where are we with this?

The brands produce garments

The brands issue licenses to distributors

The distributors sell to selected retailers which fit in with their image

We buy from the exclusive retailers

so that seems to be agreed on in the UK

but UK2004 tells us that in Italy the brands also sell 2 wholesalers. UK2004 do you know if the brands have any control ovet these official wholesalers? can you give us a name and example of one of these official wholesalers? what is the dynamic between the official distributor and these official wholesalers in Italy?

I don't know about in Italy as I've said before.

But just seen on the Moschino website that 70% of the distribution is through wholesale, 19% through retail......

So perhaps in Italy they do do this, sell to wholesalers who then sell to boutiques / small independants.

Rachel - fakes would be smuggled in, along with people!

Parallel Imports would be legally imported in to the UK, & inspected by Customs for clearance with all the required paperwork, by legitimate companies.

55cent - your prices are so cheap compared to ours over here!
