Hello
DUDE...please, back in the day 79 pairs was a small amount, my wife used to work for Adidas and I've been lucky enough to know some people at Nike, we were BIG collectors before our son was born, in 1994 I paid £450 for some pump furys, but them puma put them out again two years later and there worthless now, but we never bought for profit just for the fun and love to the sneakers, look at a book called 'Size isn't everything' now those guys are HUGE collectors....
I'll get some pictores and post them up...

There are sneaker collectors with literally hundreds if not thousands of sneakers many of them rare examples. Fat Joe is considered a true Sneaker Freaker. Maybe he hasnt got the most but his collection is amongst the most impressive in the world..........

Hello
there is a guy who lives in Cornwall he has every style/colour way ever produced by nike, a few years back (quite a few now) there was a show on C4 about sneakers (you know it's over when C4 do a show on your hobby) he had to move as the film crew showed his street and his house was broken into 15 times the month after the show aired, his collection was in the basement behind a huge steel door the sneaker were/are worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, met him at a launch once, have to say very focused man..... he's in the book 'size isn't everything'
for me it's not about the collecting it about the wearing, we have a lot but we wear them, had a Nike 'ida' beautiful shoe..killed it...found out later they only made 2000 pairs before changing the name, mine were stamped IDA.....are well, got to wear them a sneaker is made to be enjoyed.

Yeah there is no dought that sneakers are big big business now, and have become a form of Urban wear more than athletic or sportswear these days. Some sneakers command huge prices by collectors, but like you say, its important that you actually wear them now and again instead of just locking them away.
