Default Oxfam Boutiques

reading this about the new oxfam boutiques got me thinking what everyone here does with their old clothes?

What better way to beat poverty then with style? International charity organization Oxfam opened boutiques with one-off pieces from Oxfam’s second-hand clothing and fabrics created by seven UK up-and-coming designers. The Oxfam’s boutiques have been created with the help of fashion guru Jane Shepherdson, and are likely to be a new benchmark for sustainable fashion. Oxfam will open three new boutiques in West London this summer in Westbourne Grove, Shawfield St, Chelsea and Chiswick High Road.

Jane Shepherdson the creative consultant on the project said: “These boutiques are all about creating a great shopping experience. Oxfam has always been a place where stylish people hunt for interesting items to create their look, the boutiques are set to make that even easier.”

For 2009, Oxfam is looking to open more boutiques and sell sustainable fashion in various categories. ‘Loved for Longer’ stands for high quality donated fashion, ‘Reinvented’ are pieces donated to Oxfam and reworked by young designers and ‘Made with Love’ are accessories made by volunteers.

Barbara Stocking, Chief Executive of Oxfam, said: “Our customers have told us they want a more contemporary shopping experience, and these new shops are set to turn the traditional concept of an Oxfam shop on its head.”
