Default G-Star Raw Spring 2009

been reading this about g-star raw:

-----------

The catwalk has been used as a platform not just for fashion but also for socio-political issues. G-Star’s decision to highlight UNMDG during its Sep 11, 2008 show is timed perfectly with the upcoming High-Level Event on MDG set on Sep 25, 2008 in New York.

The high-level event will renew the United Nations and its partners’ commitment to achieve the 8 MDG goals which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015.

High street fashion because of its luxury connotations had been in the past accused of ignoring socio-political issues. As fashion houses and brands like G-Star collaborate with organizations and institutions that deal with socio-economic and political issues, it shows that fashion has a heart and a conscience.

-----------

am i being too cynical in thinking this is sick opportunism?

fashion naturally breeds cynicism. virtually every brand will do this type of thing for brand exposure.

in total agreement on the cynical front. fashion brands are in the business of making money and they will use whatever vehicle they can to get exposure.

Hi

Not all 'fashion' brands sell they soul to the devil, there are a growing number of small producers who have kept true to there hearts, trouble is they stay small and not a lot of support, none of them have the budget to open the press to there wears and get the coverage they should have. fashion press and media is not going after them as they don't pay for the adverts which pay for the print.

Even on sites like this where you guys are the customers and you know the deal, but still buy the bigger brands.....not knocking the brands or you guys, but it's a bit crazy, it more power of the shopper now that ever now, with hard markets and great site like this opening the information to all, but still g-star and friends take the money out of your pockets to pay for the misinformation that's spun to make us think they care when we all know they don't. it's a circle jerk

I've read so much and seen so much of this it's just a bit too much now, ever season I see new brands and old niche product trying so hard to make it and then see the bigger companies eat there designs and suck up all the money, I was in Paris for the shows, went to meet a good friend of mine (he posts on here) and he new collection, I was late, as I got to the show we had to go back in to see to some thing on his stand and we caught a guy from a large British brand taking picture of his products to re-make them for themselves, he pull the guy out of the show, got in a fight with him and has been baned from the show, yet the bigger company is staying, better money for the show and screw over the little guy, it's a shitty business. my friend has worked for years in the small denim business, passionate and honest lost his whole collection to this other company and has no place to show in Paris next season!!! yet the most upsetting thing for me is, the small guys like him are all painted with the same colour as the big guys, get treated the same way and to a point worse because there small.... yet they're the one who are trying to bring new ideas to the business and fight to maintain the quality of there goods..

'passion not profit' as he says

sorry ranting again

IMHO even the so called small ethical fashion brands like Rogan, Edun, NOHARM, Loomstate etc. have the same agenda as the big fashion brands, make as much money as possible.

i like the way noharm are only made in italy and have official vegan society status. a close friend of mine is a animal rights activist and vegan. he swears by the brand. i also kind of like rogan. he is a businessman with some sense of decency. edun is less convincing for me. then again anything to do with bono gives me the shivers.
