I would say 4 but it all depended on what colours they were.

Hmmm...difficult one that given many of my outfits have lots of different colours. I would say rule of thumb, stick with one basic colour and use other colours sparringly as accents, that way you can mix and match different items to make several outfits. Unless you are really outgoing or trying to be the centre of attention using darker colours mainly with dashes of very different colour works well, say black with bits of red. If you want to be the life and soul of the party mix as many as you want!

You been watching too much GMTV & Gog Wan or whatever the F he's called!

I think it's pretty hard to say an exact number of colours - it totally depends on patterns & the garment.
I've seen outfits with a whole mix of patterns & colours which somehow just look amazing (even though they probably shouldn't) and then I've seen outfits where people have just a couple of colours and they look wrong!

What colour combos do people think work well?
One thing I'm not a fan of is two dark colours which don't match - black & dark blue.

One of my fav combos is red & navy or stone/cream & navy.

Mainly 3 or less but 4 can work if it's really carefully picked and the 4th being just a detail
