Manorexia is certainly a genuine mental condition that manifests itself as a physical conditition. The opposite is also true of people like bodybuilders who look in the mirror and think they look too skinny and so train non stop and take lots of drugs to get themselves as big as possible.

I think most self esteem issues come about as a result of the media. If you dont comply you are seen as an outcast and often suffer for it especially if you are young. I got loads of stick when i was at school because my parents couldnt afford Adidas this or Nike that, most of my stuff was secondhand from Charity shops. Subsequently I was excluded by the popular beautiful people. I believe thats why I over compensate now by buying high end loud gear like RMC and Yoropiko! I rarely go out without at least £600- £1000 worth of clothing on now.

I'm not sure that is the case- in high school when I looked into this in my psychology class I found that many believed that it had nothing to do with 'the media' and 'body issues' as such- more to do with perfectionism of the individual. Fascinating.

You might have a point there, I certainly consider myself somewhat obsessive, no half measures are good enough be it in my working life or private life. LOL

Dunny - that is a fascinating insight you have stumbled upon. BTW - I might mug you at some stage!

I think narcissism is a matter degree- we all are to varying degrees. Fashion is probably the narcissism profession.
