Got to say I'm a bit of a Year of ...convert having recently bought a pair myself ( still got love for RMC though LOL). The above design isnt too bad, as Year of.... Jeans do tend to go a little over the top design wise even for me. One thing that I have been particularly struck with is the quality of the product. Yes, its no Yoropiko but it is much better than you would expect, even the packaging is superb what with the big tin and tote bag they come in. The brand certainly has substance with its style, its just a case of whether you happen to like the style of each given pair really. Some I quite like some I really detest. For me the Gold and Silver selvedge sold me, it might be a gimmick but Ive no dought it was expensive to produce the denim like that, and in addition must make it almost impossible to fake em too

Not really keen on TYO.
Most of the designs are a bit too crazy & 'young' for my tastes. They kind of remind of the jeans you can get off the market or some cheap & nasty hip hop clothes shop.
I'll agree with dunny - the tins are quite cool. I love various packaging, can't beat the RMC box or JPG baked bean tin!

There's something about it which doesn't make it desirable. When stacked up against other brand's jeans in Harvey Nics they kind of make me shy away from looking at them.

As for the selvedge, I don't agree that it costs much more than standard selvedge to produce. Its just a different coloured thread - no different to the red or white d85 evisu. What will affect the price is the organic denim that they use rather than the colour selvedge. (That's assuming it's not 24crt gold thread). Sadly I don't think having gold or silver thread would stop fakers if they wanted to fake the brand. Probably the good thing is that it is a small brand & at the mo won't be faked just yet).

I think there are better brands out there. I do like the idea of TYO though.

since t-bone was a martin ksohoh protege he was always going to try to follow in the master's footprints. the problem for me is he still shows signs of his purplepin x etienne ozeki x mecca years.

I have actually seen fakes of The Year of.......... and they were dire to say the least, worse than any of the RMC fakes Ive seen. I believe the gold and silver thread used in the selvedge is metalic thread as apposed to coloured thread. Given that even decent fakes that have selvedge usually adopt the more common cheapo white/ red line selvedge denim you see used on generic high street Jeans, I would dought any fakers would go to the trouble of replicating the selvedge acurately. And yeah you are quite correct CD TYO use organic denim which would make production more expensive. As a product sold as a premium denim it is certainly presented that way in terms of packaging, and whilst this doesnt change how good or bad the jeans actually are its nice to see the effort being made none the less.

Did he work for Blue Guru?

Now you mention it, they do sort of remind me of Etienne Ozeki.

Dunny - I didn't actually mean coloured as in 'dye' (red, green blue, pruple etc) I meant different colour as in the only difference is the bunch of threads on the end of the cloth. TYO being gold/silver & the others being red/white or any other colour. Not very good at explaining! (I just tend to quickly type without reading if first).
You wouldn't believe how cheap gold/silver selvedge is (or any other type of selvedge for that matter)!!
Have you washed the TYO jeans yet?
What would be cool is 'real' gold selvedge. Maybe Stone Island could produce one - they have done silver, bronze etc coats. I had a CP jumper with metal threads in it.

Dunny have you got a pic of yourself wearing your TYO jeans with an exposed selvedge (XXX Rated!). Bet they do look cool.

LOL, yeah I expect it is pretty easy just to add any colour thread to the end of the loom to make any colour selvedge you want, given that is the case it is a wonder more denim manufacturers dont personalise their products by doing this rather than all using similar generic selvedge. My TYO are already pre washed to start with, the design I have is very RMC indeed which is probably why I like em. not got any pics of me wearing them yet but here is some pics I took,
