you are still very aware of the brand you are buying. so whether it is printed purple label on the inside instead of a big logo on the outside you still know it is ralph lauren you are wearing. and are proud of it!!! other else you would not be here shouting it out on kitmeout!
so that is b*llsh*t.

i see what lucious is saying though. buying the brand for personal satisfaction rather than as a statement to others.

I suppose its a very difficult balance, I mean its in the interest of the brand itself to have its brand name visible to be able to identify the product to those around the wearer if for no other reason than to advertise it. Others think, that jacket is nice or those pants look good, what brand is that?, then voila, another potential sale! But really, once a brand becomes established, I think there is a greater emphasis on the promotion/endorsement to maintain market share, which is perhaps why quality tends to suffer, the sort of thing we have seen with Evisu for example.

Same here, in fact I am having a hard time finding a nice white tee without a logo across the front, down the back or all over.
I say this but I do feel the need for Stone Island to have the badge on the sleeve... the new stuff Im not so keen on, and to be honest it does have a lot to do with their new, stitched logo.
Still, a pair of Armani jeans will fit me better than anything, little eagle badge or no little eagle badge. As said in posts above, definitely a fine balance.

doesn't it also have to do with our mood whether we wear loud or understated clothes on a particular day?

Yeah, I would cosign that. Also depends greatly on the situations. In some occasions it's just better to look smart. Then again sometimes it's just nice to go all out and wear a bit more bling, heh.
