Do we really buy "THE Brand?"
I was thinking the other day ( yes it hurt LOL), if a designer brand, any one of the big well known ones was to stop putting its logo or name onto the outside of their garments and just had a small logo inside on the label say, would they see their sales slump?. I came to this conclusion because we all say we buy a particular brand because of the quality of materials and constuction, etc, but really if there was no trace of the designer brands name or logo on the clothing that OTHERS could clearly see, would you still buy it? I mean you know its genuine, and thats all that matters isnt it?? Surely the design and cut of the clothing item is more important than it having a designers name on it or is it?. If I was being honest, I'd have to admit that its nice to wear gear which other people can see the name of the designer/brand, ( even if in truth the average joe probably never heard of it anyway LOL). In fact this leads me to another question, does such a designer brand exsist, which never has any identification logos or the name emblazened across the outside of any of its garments??

Ralph Lauren purple label, doesn't have the brand splashed across the front. Actually as I've gotten older I've avoided clothes with the brand splashed across it.....

Brands do make a difference, and. Guess it's true that many identify the brand to certain level of quality. The symbolic value and the perceived image of the brands and products are perceived differently in different countries/areas. This all reflects the conspicuousness of the consumers. For instance I found out that Malaysian people care much more about the brand's symbolic values and the image the product gives than for instance Finnish people. Finns are very functional by nature and many are thus used to looking for the functionality of the product before the brand name. Of course it does not apply to everyone, haha. Still it is an interesting field of research. I did research on the subject of conspicuous consumption.

I started to think, which brand would not have the logo or trademarks all over their jeans or so. Blank brand would be great, but wouldn't the no-logo/brand be brand itself haha...

branding is such a head-game. the brands that suceed are the ones that know how to balance branding and (quality and/or value).

for me it would be more appealing to buy it. I hate it when a brand is all over a garment.
but i do see this goes not for all others, i know a lot of people who buy something for the name on it. and if it would be a law.. christian audigier and g-star would be out of bussiness

Very true, it all goes to consumer psychology. But how to map the consumer behavior when consumer's behavior is generally irrational (or so some argue)? Haha... Also very true what you said about the balancing.

With some clothing I don't mind if the brand's trademark design is visible in the garment but not too much, heh. But some people really just care about the label on top of the product, I know many of them as well.
