jimmy choo
so the jimmy choo brand is jumping on the "charity" bandwagon in the hope of glean some positive publicity and ultimately more sales:
Tamara Mellon has rallied her pep squad to raise money for African women and children exposed to HIV.
the best thing the jimmy choo brand can possibly do is bring back the brand's founder and true spirit mr. jimmy choo himself. since tamara and her partner bought out jimmy choo the brand has taken a distinct dive.

Yeah, bring Jimmy back. I remember talk about the brand collaborating with H&M or something, and that's not a good look. We were just talking about Jimmy Choo with the wifey few days back, the dude's defo among the most famous Malaysians along with Michelle Yeoh, heh. I wonder if the dude's got other projects going on?

I think anytime the original designer of a brand no longer contributes to the designs in any way, very often it looses its image. It will be interesting to see if Bape suffer the same fate now Nigo has stopped designing the gear.

any brands that actually challenge your thoughts, dunny?
that have become better or at least, say, stronger and more interesting after its soul have left for whatever reason?

It is impossible no, for a brand to be stronger when the originator is gone.

Ironically the very brand I mentioned, BAPE, has been producing some nice interesting gear despite not having Nigo's input. I certainly dont feel bape is somehow worse as a result, but die hard fans are likely to think different. If I am honest, if RMC was designed by somebody other than Martin Ksohoh I suspect I would also turn my back on the brand eventually. Its a strange thing but once you are hooked to a designer, anything made in just their name alone might as well just be a new totally different brand altogether! This is ceratinly something that design houses never have to concern themselves over. Brands like Diesel and G star have teams of faceless designers for example and it doesnt seem to affect their sales or following. In fact if anything their styles tend to be love it or loathe it on a season to season basis such is the diversity of design flair within their ranks.

but saying that; Dior had a life as a brand long before slimane, as did LV before Jacobs.
so: did they kill the brands soul?
